In March iInspire team members shared tech tools that they learned about at the NCTies convention. Their passion and excitement for the new and exciting things that they'd come away with made me realize that those are the types of teachers that our kids need in the classroom more than anything else. It's not about the technology or the perfect lesson or the next new thing but instead about the passionate teachers that are there to inspire kids to learn and achieve their goals. I am so blessed and honored to be a part of such an amazing team of teachers who are striving to no only learn about new strategies and technology but also inspire their students and be more passionate teachers!

October Meeting: In October we shared our different areas or expertise. Each group shared what they had learned about assessments, backchannels, presentation tools, and other areas of exploration. We shared tips and tricks that we had learned over the past month while working with Weebly and spent some time working on polishing our Weebly sites to make them even more impressive. Finally, we discussed Universal Design. I shared how we can better utilize our school systems learning management system - Schoology - to serve our students individual needs better. I showed the group some distinguishing features about how they can better organize their courses, assign grades, utilize discussion boards, take advantage of learning objectives, incorporate badges, and diminish cheating with the lockdown browser. These are all tools that are easy to use with Schoology and right at every teacher and students finger tips. Over the month of October teachers are focusing on how they can utilize special tools in Schoology to make sure that they are personalizing their course for each individual students needs so that they can come back and share great ideas with the group in November! We discussed how we wanted this year to go and what our goals for the year should be. We created a mission statement and came up with ideas for our sessions each month. The basis of iInspire is to share with each other what's working in our classrooms and grow in technology with each other. However, we want to expand on that and really put ourselves out there in a more palpable way. This year we want the school to truly be aware of what we are learning and how we are growing in our professional lives. We want our students to grow with us as leaders in the classroom and the JCHS community. We want our colleagues to see us as leaders and come and feel confident in our development in our departments and as leaders in the Carson community. This is a great opportunity for all of us to learn from each other and lead Carson forward. It is an opportunity to inspire the people around us to grow and become their best selves through the use of technological resources that we all now have at our fingertips. Let's move forward and inspire each other!

Keri HolmanI am a 7th year English 2 teacher at Jesse C. Carson High School. I am the girls tennis coach and the prom committee adviser at Carson. After being awarded a 21st century classroom many years ago I became passionate about all things technology and professional development. This year I've taken over our iInspire team in hopes of getting the newer teachers at Carson acquainted with one another and allow them to share strategies with each other! It's a great way to get to know new people around the school while still getting the opportunity to grow as educators. Archives
